You can bring your pet on holiday to Antalya and Kemer, but it takes good preparation. Flight rules, health documents, summer heat and the pet policy of your accommodation are the four things to plan. This guide covers what to consider when travelling to Antalya with a pet, keeping your animal safe in the summer heat, and practical tips for your stay.
Before you travel
Health documents
- Microchip and vaccinations: Make sure vaccinations, especially rabies, are up to date.
- Travelling from abroad: Check the documents needed to enter Turkey and to return home, such as a health certificate or rabies antibody test, with official sources well in advance. Return rules vary by country and preparation can take weeks.
- Vet check: Have a general check-up before travelling and update parasite treatments.
Flights and transport
- Airlines have different cabin and hold rules, crate sizes and weight limits; check before you book.
- In summer some airlines restrict pets in the hold because of the heat.
- Confirm in advance that your transfer from Antalya Airport to Kemer accepts pets. See our airport transfer guide.
Accommodation
Pet policies in Antalya and Kemer vary widely. Some places don’t accept pets at all; others accept small breeds for an extra fee. Before booking, ask:
- Are pets accepted, and is there a size or weight limit?
- Is there an extra fee or deposit?
- What rules apply at the pool, restaurant and common areas?
- Can your pet be left alone in the room?
Staying safe in the heat
- Heatstroke: Antalya summers are very hot. Walk early in the morning and in the evening.
- Hot ground: Asphalt and stone can burn paws; test with the back of your hand.
- Never leave a pet in a car: Not even for a short time.
- Water: Always carry water and a bowl.
Beaches and outdoors
Many public beaches don’t allow pets or have restrictions; check the signs at the entrance. Early mornings and evenings are better for walks along the promenade and in parks. Kemer’s plateaus and forest roads are lovely for dog walks in cooler weather. Keep your dog on a lead; there is wildlife and there are street animals in the area.
Vets in Kemer
There are veterinary clinics in Kemer centre and nearby areas. Ask your accommodation for the nearest clinic in advance.
