With clear water, underwater rock formations, wrecks and islands being prepared for marine protection, Kemer is one of Turkey’s leading dive destinations. There are sites for every level, from instructor-led discover-scuba dives for beginners to advanced wreck dives. This guide covers Kemer’s best-known dive sites, the diving season and practical advice for first-time divers.

Kemer’s best-known dive sites

Three Islands (Tekirova)

Three small islands off Tekirova are among the best-known dive sites in the Kemer area. Rocky bottoms, cave-like formations and plenty of marine life make them popular for training and fun dives. The area is being prepared as Kemer’s first marine protected area; see Kemer Underwater Days.

The Paris 2 wreck

A First World War French warship at about 33 metres off Kemer Marina, and the area’s most famous wreck dive for advanced divers. See our Paris 2 wreck guide.

Phaselis bays

The shallow, sheltered water around the ancient harbours is good for snorkelling and easy dives. See our Phaselis guide.

Bays around Kemer

Dive centres choose sites in the bays north and south of Kemer to suit the sea conditions and divers’ levels.

The diving season

  • May–October: The best time to dive in Kemer; the water is warmest in August and September.
  • Visibility: Usually good on calm days; on windy days the site may change.
  • Winter: The water cools; diving is possible in a thick wetsuit but it is the off-season.

First-time divers

  • Discover scuba: Without a certificate you can try diving in shallow water with an instructor.
  • Medical form: Answer the health questions honestly; some conditions rule out diving.
  • Training: A few days of basic training can earn you an internationally recognised certificate.
  • Flying: Do not dive in the 24 hours before a flight.

Choosing a dive centre

  • Choose centres affiliated with international diving organisations and working with certified instructors.
  • Check that equipment is well maintained and fits you.
  • Ask about group size and the number of guides per dive.

Other ways to explore the sea

Prefer to stay at the surface? Try kayaking and SUP or a boat trip with swimming stops in the bays.
