With limestone cliffs and a climbing season that lasts almost all year, Antalya is Turkey’s sport-climbing capital, and climbers staying in Kemer are within easy reach of its two best-known areas: Geyikbayırı and Olympos. This guide covers the climbing areas you can reach from Kemer, the best season, options for beginners and safety tips.

Climbing areas

Geyikbayırı

West of Antalya in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, Geyikbayırı is Turkey’s best-known sport-climbing area. Hundreds of routes spread across many sectors cater to every level, from easy to very hard. There are campsites and guesthouses aimed at climbers. It is about 45 minutes to an hour by car from Kemer.

Olympos

The cliffs of the Olympos valley also have sport-climbing routes, ideal if you want to combine climbing with swimming and exploring the ancient city. See our Olympos and Çıralı guide.

Best season

  • October–May: The main climbing season, with cool, dry days.
  • Summer: Very hot; climb only on shaded sectors, early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
  • Winter: Mild coastal weather makes climbing possible on sunny days.

For beginners

If you’ve never climbed, start with a guided course in the area. Guides provide the equipment, teach basic safety techniques and choose routes that suit your level. Half-day and full-day introductory courses are common.

Equipment and safety

  • Helmet: Both climber and belayer should wear one because of rockfall.
  • Check your gear: Check the rope, harness and knots before every climb.
  • Route information: Use up-to-date guidebooks and route grades.
  • Water and sun: There is little shade at the crags; carry enough water.
  • Respect nature: Stay on marked paths and take your rubbish home.

Other adventures in Kemer
